The Nova Scotia Department of Seniors provides safe, affordable housing for lower-income seniors. Rent is based on income and availability is first-come, first-served.
The Department of Health's Continuing Care program locates eligible home care services for seniors who can remain at home but need assistance with personal care or household chores. Nursing services are free; other costs depend on types of service and income level. Clients pay full cost for services at private home care agencies. Seniors requiring care needs beyond home care can be assessed by the Department to determine eligibility for licensed long-term care funded by the province. Or they can arrange for private care in an assisted living facility. Services and fees vary among private facilities. Financial assistance is not available.
