Additional amenities may include full maid service, transportation, scheduled social activities, or even on-site beauty and barbershops.

How can independent living be better than staying in one's own home?

Independent living, also called senior apartments or retirement communities, offers seniors a private, independent lifestyle in the company of other seniors who share similar interests. Communities also offer regular recreational activities, trips and excursions.

Wellness programs and exercise facilities may be available to the residents, but there are no on-site care options. If medical care becomes necessary, residents may bring in outside services of their choice. Versatility and freedom are the draws of independent living facilities.
