Arrow Senior Living recently launched a YouTube video, “Seniors Salute Thunder Road,” in response to Thunder Road, a feature film that explores “the physical and psychological repercussions of combat for this generation’s soldier.”
Residents of the Missouri-based senior living company were intrigued by the film, in which three men explore PTSD and other challenges faced by today’s veterans. Hear what the Arrow Residents have to say about their own post-war experiences below:
“We were told to ignore the sadness,” one woman says. Another remembers the advice given to her years ago: “Don’t talk about the panic, and it will go away.”
Clearly, the pain, panic, anxiety, depression and isolation recounted by these senior veterans and their surviving family members very much parallels the long road to coming home that modern day soldiers and their families face every day. What the Arrow Senior Living Residents have done in sharing their stories and photographs opens the conversation across generations, an important step towards making connections that lead to healing, restoration, and renewal.
