#ElderCareChat 2/6/13 Recap Post: Advocating for Quality Care

What being a champion for your senior loved one's care is all about: get the scoop in this recap of our latest #ElderCareChat.This Wednesday, 52 participants (with several new faces among the group) talked about the various settings in which family caregivers and their loved ones find themselves: at the doctor’s office, at home with a home health care provider, in the hospital, in assisted living, at social events, family gatherings and more.

Advocating for quality care is essentially being a champion for your loved one in these settings –  being an extra set of eyes and ears, holding providers accountable, and keeping a lookout for changes that could indicate a problem or the need for a care adjustment.

To that end, the conversation was guided by these questions:

Q3: How do you ensure a caree has quality care when receiving help through a home health agency?
Q4: How do you ensure a caree has quality care during a hospitalization?

Q6: How do you ensure your caree receives quality care during family get-togethers and social events?
Q7: How do you ensure a caree receives quality care while you take a break?
Q8: How do you keep up with changing care needs to ensure quality stays consistent?
Q9: What three tips can you offer to family caregivers to help them provide quality care?
