This week, a grandmother was able to attend a family wedding and enjoy a piece of reception cake… all without leaving her South Carolina retirement community.
Clarine, a resident at Westminster Retirement Community in Greenville, tuned in to the wedding remotely via Skype, surrounded by her Westminster friends. The community chef generously prepared a cake for the group to enjoy post-ceremony. (View pictures of the party at Holiday Retirement’s Facebook page.)
The “wedding party” is a great example of how today’s technology connects people who are miles apart, and fosters the opportunity for friends and family to celebrate important milestones together, even when travel is not an option. It’s also a great tool for staying in touch, provides a new communication outlet for those with dementia or other memory impairments, and often serves as a means for bridging the gap between generations.
