Assisted Living Residents Compete in Nationwide Art Contest

By Michelle Seitzer / Posted on 22 August 2012

With ten finalists currently in the public voting phase, the Emeritus Senior Living 2012 Resident Art Contest is underway. Participants created a winter scene worthy of a holiday card cover, which is where the winner’s piece will eventually find a home. Follow this link or visit the Emeritus Facebook page to cast a vote for your favorite (up to 20 entries per day are permitted).

The artists who created these beautiful pieces reside in Emeritus assisted living communities from California to (South) Carolina. Voting will close on August 31st, at which time, the judges will add their votes to the mix before announcing a winner on September 4th.

It’s inspiring to hear of contests like this one: first, because it demonstrates a commitment on the part of providers to offer opportunities for resident engagement and enrichment, and second, because it demonstrates that the creative spirit operates regardless of age.

That being said, a previous post on Lastingness: The Art of Old Age is appropriate to mention here: revisit our review of a fascinating book that explores the work of artists who created new masterpieces well into their 70s, 80s and beyond.
