Earlier this spring, the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) distributed their annual Best of the Best Awards to the assisted living communities that demonstrated outstanding service to residents and their families, as well as superior staff management.
Award winners placed in the following categories: resident health and wellness, supporting residents and families, resident dining experience, technology adoption, risk management and injury reduction, sales and marketing, human resources and staff development, and physical plant/environmental.
You can view the full list of award recipients here; here are a few highlights:
Silverado Senior Living created a centralized purchasing program to “reduce waste and overall expense” and improve quality of service.
Menu Manager 8.0, a “pre-planned 13-week menu cycle” that could be easily customized and modified based on available fresh foods and resident preferences won a Best of the Best 2012 for Brookdale Senior Living communities.
Massachusetts-based Five Star Senior Living was recognized for its Step Up to the Plate Manager on Duty campaign. The provider empowered and trained management and front desk staff (armed with a toolbox of information and resources) to ensure the effectiveness of any manager on duty.

Your turn: How does the senior living community where your loved one resides excel in service?
