#ElderCareChat to Cover Travel Tips for Caregivers

By Michelle Seitzer / Posted on 19 March 2012

On the first and third Wednesday of each month, a group of elder care advocates and professionals gather for a real-time conversation on Twitter: #ElderCareChat (read more about it here). Currently in its second year, the SeniorsforLiving.com team co-founded and co-moderates this forum with Denise Brown of Caregiving.com.

Topics have run the gamut from hoarding and downsizing issues to caring for someone with dementia to why we love seniors. As we anticipate increased travel in the coming months, this week’s discussion will be focused on tips for those who may be traveling with seniors. Long-distance caregivers might also garner insights on safety tips specific to a senior family member who may be traveling alone.

Another side of the coin? Many caregivers, consumed by daily caregiving responsibilities, put their personal/business travel plans on hold, or travel with a heavy heart, worried about the loved one left behind. Read this post for helpful guidelines on guilt-free travel. Besides home care, short-term stays in assisted living provide a workable solution.

If you cannot attend the chat (which takes place at 1pm ET this Wednesday, March 21st), check our blog for a recap post on Friday morning, or follow the #ElderCareChat hashtag on Twitter.
