We write often about the difficult transition that a move to assisted living can be. But there are many success stories, and many instances where new friendships and romances flourish. Classmates are reunited after decades, and single elders find love (some even get married).
Today, this video from the AARP blog features one of these sweet love stories: Dana Jackson celebrated her 100th birthday as a bride, marrying Bill Strauss, 87, at the Kentucky senior care community where they met. Jackson looks stunning in a full gown (she even gets a sexy garter at her bachelorette party), and Strauss is handsome in his tux and boutonniere. Watch the happy couple say “I do” here:
Though new relationships developed in assisted living may be bittersweet for some family members (read our post about the reasons why), there is also room for joy and fulfillment, and these opportunities for love in the later years should be fully embraced.
Happy Valentine’s Day from SeniorsforLiving.com! Tell a special senior how much you love them today.
