With Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday behind us and the saturation of holiday shopping ads still before us, this week’s #ElderCareChat was focused on a different kind of gift-giving, thanks to tweets shared by a record-breaking 84 participants.
Focusing on our “grown-up wish lists”, participants gave Santa a run for his money with incredibly creative, positively practical, and thoughtfully-considered gift ideas for seniors and caregivers – most of which could not be assigned a dollar value – based on the questions listed below:
- Share your gift ideas for the senior who has everything…
- How about gift ideas for employees at senior care communities and home care agencies (in addition to health care professionals serving seniors)?
- Gifts for those with Alzheimer’s/dementia?
- Gifts for those with arthritis and other painful chronic conditions?
- Gifts for those with terminal illness?
- Gifts for caregivers?
- What’s your vision for a better elder care world, the top item on your elder care wish list?
Here are a few highlights:
Many other wonderful ideas were shared, so if you’re still stumped on what to give your loved ones this holiday (or really, any time of year), we’re happy to share the gift of a full transcript following each chat, made possible by one of our top Twitter followers: Craig, aka @ctffox, with The Fox Group. Click here to review the details of our conversation, and be sure to share it with others who need the kind of shopping inspiration that cannot be found in circulars or commercials.

Don’t miss our next chat: Wednesday, December 14th at 1pm ET. We welcome elder care professionals, long-distance caregivers, former caregivers, advocates – essentially, anyone who is interested in eldercare issues.
If the time frame doesn’t sync with your schedule, start a discussion thread on our LinkedIn page, or use the #eldercarechat hashtag to present a question or idea to the group. Encourage your colleagues, friends, or family members to join our bi-weekly discussions or group anytime.
Though there are plenty of practical, unique and from-the-heart gift ideas within the transcript of this chat session, you may also want to check out these zany suggestions for the fun-loving senior in your life: 30 Ridiculous, Fabulous, Beyond-Crazy Gifts.

An affordable and practical gift for seniors is the reacher grabber. Its long arm makes reaching things easy, and contains a hook on the end for putting on socks, shoes, etc.

The things I had in my mind for my dad wasn’t even listed in there, lols! I bought him an MP3 player since he uses it so much every day, and for Christmas, he always asks for new shirts and pants.

Oh wow — well, there were many other ideas shared in the space of the hour. You may find them in the transcript of the session. An MP3 player is a great idea though! And new clothes are always nice to have. Thanks for your comment!
