Senior Living Communities Celebrate Memorial Day Holiday

By Michelle Seitzer / Posted on 30 May 2011

Across the country today, senior living communities are hosting picnics, tributes, memorial services, and other celebrations honoring veterans, currently enlisted service members, and the many brave soldiers who gave up their lives for liberty and freedom throughout the history of our nation.

Residents of senior living who themselves are veterans are often involved in the planning and production of some of these events. At a CCRC (continuing care retirement community) where I once served as the activities director, a group of veterans organized a number of activities for this revered holiday, including a trip to the Memorial Day ceremony held annually and open to the public at the local Memorial Gardens.

In Massachusetts, EPOCH Senior Living of Norton is holding a patriotic sing-a-long and flag ceremony at 1pm today, according to this EPOCH Senior Living press release highlighting holiday activities taking place in the Rhode Island/Massachusetts region.

Part of the Brookdale Senior Living family of communities, Cypress Village independent living in Jacksonville, Florida, will host a Memorial Day program called “Honoring Our Fallen Veterans” at 2pm today.

At Aegis of Edmonds, an assisted living & Alzheimer’s care community in Washington state, transportation to the Evergreen Washelli Commemorative Service is offered to residents who wish to attend this afternoon tribute to veterans.

Thank you to all who have served this country and fought for our freedom! We honor you today.
