New York is not the only place experiencing dramatic assisted living industry growth (remember that May 11 post?). A private, family-owned company based in Redmond, Washington, Aegis Senior Living, has also seen a tremendous increase in the need for services in their region. They have responded to the demand by doubling the pace of development. Generally, Aegis Senior Living has added two retirement communities annually; currently, there are four local projects in the pipeline.
Dwayne Clark is the Chairman, CEO, and founder of Aegis Senior Living. He works hard to foster a thriving corporate culture/effective workplace (at the Aegis home office, you’ll find a gym, an on-duty fitness trainer, outdoor picnic area and reflexology path, and healthy snacks in the café), which he believes is the key to running a successful business. Clark corroborates this belief in a recent article from the Puget Sound Business Journal. Says Clark, “People are the path to profitability.”
Since 1997, Aegis Senior Living has expanded rapidly and now includes 35 senior communities in Washington, California, and Nevada.
One of the senior communities currently in development is slated to open in Bellevue, Washington. The 100-bed assisted living facility is said to be modeled on a community in San Francisco that is uniquely designed to serve Chinese Americans (i.e. the assisted living community will include staff that speaks Mandarin; activity planning will reflect the culture as well).
