SeniorsforLiving.com & Caregiving.com Launch New #EldercareChat on Twitter

By Michelle Seitzer / Posted on 19 November 2010

I am still grinning after the success of our first #EldercareChat, which SeniorsforLiving.com is co-sponsoring on Twitter with Caregiving.com’s Denise Brown.

On Wednesday, November 17th at 1pm EST, followers of @Seniors4Living and @caregiving on Twitter probably noticed a spike in tweets, all of which ended with the group’s hashtag: #eldercarechat. The lively forum included people from the East Coast, West Coast, and other places/spaces in between. We were also pleased to welcome a guest from across the pond in the UK!

Many of the participants expressed their appreciation for the forum, both in the days leading up to the inaugural chat and well into the days following.  It seems we have struck a chord with our chat’s target audience — eldercare professionals and family caregivers – filling a void in the Twittersphere by providing a place for these advocates to ask questions and give answers, share information and resources, and offer stories and encouragement to those caring for seniors, whether in a professional or personal setting.

Take a look at the transcript to see for yourself!

About a dozen tweeters participated in the discussion, which covered the theme/activities of November’s National Family Caregivers Month and ways to support caregivers year-round. We also conversed about the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, spanning light subjects like our favorite (mostly fattening) foods of the fall feast to heavier subjects like how to cope with missing a loved one during the holidays, or how caregiving responsibilities have impacted holiday plans.

Join the next conversation on Wednesday, December 1st at 1 p.m. EST at #eldercarechat when the forum features ways to use technology in caregiving as the main topic for discussion.
